A little bit of research to share with you

Hello lovely subscriber. I don’t know how it is where you are, but now that Spooky Season is officially over, everything has gone full on Christmas here. I’m personally ok with that as I love the festive season, but this year I’m behind. This is the first time in as long as I can remember that I haven’t designed a seasonal card collection. While I may have missed the boat for those dear friends and family who usually buy my offerings, this afternoon it also occurred to me that I don’t have our own family card to send either. As I had a couple of hours allocated to art today, I thought I’d choose potential Christmas/Winter Solstice appropriate subjects to inspire my practice. If one of them turned out OK I might have a suitable design to send to the Printers.

I’ve been enjoying drawing and painting birds recently so I started off sketching robins from licence free images that some kind photographers make available for us artists. But then I thought of the other birds that are associated with Christmas and putting the partridge on hold, as I’ve done one of those before, the next on the list was the turtle dove. I realised that I knew nothing about this bird so indulged in a bit of research. I hope you find the results as interesting as I did.
